Plant of Dreams is a brand of handmade paper goods and other crafts created by Ana Freire in San Francisco. The brand was born out the artist's longstanding love of paper and design. Although Ana has been creating cards and prints for years, it was her move from Spain to San Francisco that broadened her exposure and access to new methods of printing. In San Francisco, she was also inspired by the city's appreciation of local and handcrafted goods.
Ana draws inspiration from nature and the beauty that she finds in everyday life. She prints her designs by hand, using vintage letterpress equipment at the San Francisco Center for the Book, a non-profit organization dedicated to the culture of book making and preserving traditional printing techniques.
THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME
The brand is named after the "plant of dreams", or planta de los sueños, a springtime weed that grows in the corners of unsuspecting gardens in southern Spain. As the logo depicts, the plant resembles a mobile, with round seeds at the end of each delicate branch. Each seed contains a good dream* which is passed on to anyone who places one these plants under their pillow at bedtime.
*Disclaimer: the magical powers of this plant may be the product of Ana's mother's constant efforts to tend to her children's imaginations.
